We had a fun time with our drag cars on Saturday with Darkestdale being crowned the champion after it was all said and done.
We had 6 drivers show up and put a time down for the tourney, with Gashi setting fast pass in his '69 charger at 11.800 in qualifying, and an 11.783 in the actual race. Dale qualified with an 11.830, Donut ran a 12.278, Insanity ran a 12.346, Vealhead ran a 12.563, and Romoza ran a 12.982.
The pairings had Dale and Gashi getting the free pass in round one. First up was Insanity and Vealhead. Both drivers got squirly down the track, with Vealhead getting loose in 1st and 2nd gears, and Insanity doing the same in 2nd and 3rd gears. The race would go down to the wire with both drivers crossing within 2 hundredths of each other, Insanity the better with a 12.461. Next up was Romoza and Donut. Romoza had been searching for speed the entire event and went into the race despite his cars capabilities. Romoza got off the line clean and was leading by the 1/8 mile and histerically shouting, "I am winning!" just as Donut's car hooked up and passed him. Everyone in the room laughed for a good few minutes. Donut ran a 12.346. Next race saw Gashi in his 1060 hp charger vs Insanities baracuda. Gashi's launce was near flawless and he ran an 11.783, his fastest time ever, and the fastest of the event. Up next we saw Dale's '67 vette take on Donut's shelby gt500. Donut had been making adjustments to the build and tune the entire event looking for speed and ended up spinning his tires off the line. Dale took the race with a 12.062. So the dust settles and there are just 2 cars on the track. Gashi's monster charger vs Dales classic vette. The tension was massive as Gashi had been putting down fast pass after fast pass. Dale was usually right on the same times all night. His last pass of 12.062 being his slowest pass of the day. They lined them up, and Dale took the win easily with a perfect launch, and kept it going the entire run setting his fast pass of the day of an 11.826. Congratulations Dale, you are the first ever Saturday Night Drags Muscle Car Champion! 3rd and 4th positions still needed figuring out, and after another build change for Donut, he put his car to the line to face the baracuda of Insanity. Insanity had the race almost from the start as Donut spun his tires at the start, just never getting a tune or build that would work down the track. Hindsight says he should have kept his qualifying build and tune as that was good enough for 3rd fastest. Insanity kept his cool and ran a 12.478. Good enough for 3rd place.
